I am really sorry to write my comment in English, especially I am a Chinese.  But I try to do so because the workstation I am using doesn't support simplified Chinese.
Oh, sorry again for distractions.  In fact, after your introduction, I am reading the book in Sina and found it really interesting.  In fact the reason the author wrote this book is because the social situation in Japan.  As I learnt from books, some decades before in Japan, most people's career do not develop in the ways we do.
They may have some qualification in some area, like accounting. mechanics... but most of these people didn't end up to be the specialist of the areas, but a generally trained employee of the company.  Some one with engineering background would probably end up to be a accountant, financial manager or something else.
This is because in these old days, the Japanese enterprises believe a person trained in many areas should have a wider range of vision and should be more creative in doing things.  In fact, I think it is the case, making so many "innovation" occurred in Japan (even those innovation aren't essentially new things, but a re-packaging of idea).  The generally trained people may be transferred between specialties every few years. Even they didn't have any areas they worked well enough, their career had been promised as the enterprise always kept their jobs.  It is the old ways Jap co I read in the books.
It really worked well in the old days, when the global economy did developed so well and the competitions was not too intensified. But in recent days, this approach just simply doesn’t work. The generally trained people are hard to fired a new job when they separated from their first company.  The reason maybe their salary are too high, the economy sucks… but I think one reason for their hard landing is that their training is too diversified, and skillsets are too wide but shallow. (I agree there are some talents managed to be specialized in several areas like you do, but I think most of us are not able to accomplish.)
I think that’s why the author wrote the book.  And I think the book may not be easily accepted by us.
Besides, there is a phrase called professionalism I learned in colleague. It describe the ways we expect when people labeled ourselves professional.
At last, just want to tell you that your blog is very good, I just want to say thank you to you.
